  • Easily internalized? Tell that to anyone who studies English as a second language. Yes, being able to hear can make it easier to detect certain errors in usage with spoken languages, but as far as learning grammar, whether in English, ASL or any other language, one needs to practice and learn from those fluent in the language being learned.

  • Very funny, Ridor! About correcting hearie's written words

We need to feel more confident about English and not to be afraid. One teacher encouraged me to read in the Sports section in newspapre even I am not interested, it helped me see how things are written, the words used and all that. Challenge yourself by reading various things, you'll be surprised at how much you can learn.

  • it is an auditory language? The language could be in gestures or written symbols, not only in auditory!

The way you put it, it seem like that we had to learn English Language for hearie's sake, unless you were talking about book in tape!

  • My Deaf co-worker who came to US when she was 12. Her English writing is extremely poor. I read her communication logs on each clients. It's embarrassing because her English sounds so corny - re: A client was given the insulin shot by the nurse. Well, my co-worker types "the nurse shot client's belly" and so on. In back of my head, it sounds funny. I've enjoyed working with her and her great sense of humor. She has 4 languages that confuse her. She is 26 now. I don't think it is her fault.

  • Oops, Star WarS ! I'll fingerpsell perfectly next time

  • I make many mistakes in writing Deaf Anthology because I didn't proofread it, then revising it later. High school wasn't easy having to read the Canterbury Tales in old English. Contemporary Affairs requires me to read the NY Times every Sunday for a quiz on Wednesdays, I cheated buying the Daily News instead but managed to get by. My fourth grade teacher figured I will be happier in an advanced reading class with a friend. I taught myself, the teachers just guide me.

  • No question to ask, you got a best point I ever see.

You make me realize that my English must improve.

for me, a long story to tell you why I got a bad grammar in English language sometimes.

    That's life.

  • Excellent Vlog, Good Points!

  • Exactly! I agree with Koobifora.

  • Not understanding English is crazy, madness, and suicidal. A couple years ago I read a book written by Ray Bradbury. The Deaf community are "being" Fahrenheit 451'ed. (chuckles)
