The Mid Atlantic offshore buoy, 44066-Texas Tower 4 buoy was deployed June 19, 2009 from the US Coast Guard Cutter Elm at the Hudson Canyon at 10am. Captain Kennedy of the ELM held a dedication ceremony for the 28 lost men at sea from Texas Tower 4 in 1961. 5 commemorative bottles were set adrift by Macoora, and a wreath provided by the Freeport Tuna Club was also released to honor the fallen men. This buoy will add safety and realtime weather conditions for all those transiting the Hudson Canyon area. The successful deployment was in joint cooperation with the National Data Buoy Center, National Weather Service, IOOS, Macoora and mariner stakeholders on behalf on the ocean going public. A thanks to all who supported this effort and to make these waters safer.

@yapaspace You bet they're excellent. I'm glad these brave 28 men could be recognized all these decades later.

@FylthyBeest Tried to get a fly over but weather sucked. No available Tower men to be present unfortunately.
This was the best we could do to provide a memorial and dedication. CG men excellent.

This is most impressive and tear-jerking. Were any Air Force personnel present?
