I followed/stayed just ahead of, this storm from Kenansville to Yeehaw Junction. It was recorded on Hi-8mm video...and I recently acquired the capability to make some of the old tapes accessible on line through file conversion hard/software. This area in Osceola County is often where the west and east coast sea breeze collide in the early evening just after peak heating and when inland low level moisture levels begin to rise.

  • that was amazing! those were extremely close :) you should have went out and looked for damage they might have caused

  • @FloridaSeverWeather It was pretty much in the middle of nowhere other than right there at the junction. I think these hit very close to, if not on, the Florida Turnpike

  • Amazing lightning!! I must say, I love the way the sky looks-absolutely love it!!

  • @cloudchaserify YeeeHaw! :-). I'm glad you liked it cloudchaserify. Cool handle name too ...

  • Wow... really makes me want to experience a Florida lightning storm!! Do the storms often last into the night, to produce lightning after dark? What time of year, in your opinion, would be BEST for highest odds of seeing thunderstorms? =) Thanks for sharing the awesome video you took!!

  • @stormyskyes Thanks for watching :-). Yes, they can last into the night as well. Usually that would happen somewhere further inland. In the summer, they don't go much longer than 9pm though after heating of the day is over and the atmosphere has been sufficiently 'worked over'. If you look at the later video I just posted 2 days ago..you'll find more daytime lightning too...this was an awesome storm the other day..5 times more lightning than video could ever capture.

  • That's really a spectacular lightning storm. Congratulations for your awesome captions!!!!

  • @NDWVP You know how lightning video goes sometimes. Didn't even catch 1/3 of what was going on around me. This happens right as the sea breezes meld..there's about 10 minutes of craziness. From that point..if the storm doesn't move on with help from something aloft it will sit in place a die. Sometimes something aloft will push it through the sea breeze where they will go bonkernuts within 3 miles of the immmediate coast.

  • Nice lightning man!
