I understand that your given an opinion but some of what you are saying is not factual. Brian Wilson, Mark Linnett or Alan Boyd did no re-recording on this box set. What you are hearing is from the actual session tapes.

As for being a completeist, than listen to the 2004 release "Brian Wilson Presents Smile" which is the definitive version of the "idea" of what SMiLE was supposed to be.

Listening to the way most of the songs segue into the others (as if it were supposed to sound like that) doesn't really sound like a random order to me. Brian and Van Dyke did after all write the songs as snippets and they could have been arranged in any order regardless of whether it was released in 67' or now. Also, Brian did technically finish the album, but on his own in 04', and again with Van Dyke's help, wrote lyrics to those unfinished songs you referred to.
