Here's where I'm at with my horse rider stance. I'm trying out PNF stretching and seeing if I can get down to the side splits. I think I have improved a bit since I started a few weeks ago. I was hoping to have it down by 29th March 2009, but it still seems like it will take longer. I've added some other flexibility exercises to my training now to help accelerate my progress. We'll see how it goes.

  • horse stance-perfect for taking a dump

  • Feet must be parallel in Ma Bu (Horse Stance), knees above feet, force directed vertically from feet into the floor. And you should beable to stand for 5 to 10 minutes in Ma Bu if you want to be good...

Nice exercises on your site, congratulations!

  • Some advice (sry for my english):

    1) You feet should be parallel and looking forward, not outwards

    2) Not sure, because i dont see it from the side, but make sure that you do not lean forward to make it easier. The Horse Stance should be balanced and solid, even without having the arms in front of you.

  • @jackcurtis14c did you get any info. Check out thomas kurz stretching scientifically video. You should be able to do the full slits in 6-7 months if not injured.

  • @qiankundanuoyi1 half splits like leg in front of you and behind. Full splits legs out to your sides.

  • @crimberland all the splits?

  • I was taught to do it with my back flat against a wall until i could do 30 mins, then moved off to do over 15 mins my first go. I could do the half splits before i started horse but then i lost the flexibility through strengthening. A good test after managing 10 mins or more is to pinch the feet against the floor as though you wanted to break the ground beneath you...then get someone strong to try to lift your leg off the ground from your ankle.you should be stuck. The key to rootedness.

    peace.

  • just a quick comment..did you do your research on this stance properly as this was apart of my gong fu and ninjutsu training.

It actually resets your joint and facia tissue of the muscles as well as squeezing the pelvic plates closer together. When done correctly over months your will actually loose up to an inch of height. Then is when you start the flexibility training an gain the inch you lost back.

  • Yeah a horse stand is all about keeping you stable so it is very important to use your toes to grip to the ground. His toes are pointed up means he doesn't have the balance.

  • Hi mate do you reckon it could be possible you send what you did to improve your flexibility, cheers much appreciated

  • I also have one on using your bodywieght only with exercises its called Naked Warrior

  • Hey if you like i have a book on stretching i can email it to you if you like, Im positive the stuff in it will help you out! Its called Relax into stretch

    Kind Regards, Liam
