@MetaplaceDixi This is a truly bizarre comment. Firstly, we have no idea her real name WAS Mary Jane Kelly as it is simply the name she gave to people in the last months of her life. Of COURSE we know it is the woman who was killed by Jack The Ripper because her funeral was covered in immense detail and her grave site known then and now. You might as well ask if it's President John F Kennedy buried in Arlington Cemetery because there's millions of John Kennedys in the world!

Mary Ann Nichols AKA Polly Nichols Mary Ann Kelly. AKA Catherine Eddows Mary Kelly AKA Mary jane Kelly Is this all just coincidence ? Annie chapman & Liz Stride both lived at 35 Dorset street , Mary Kelly was at 26 dorset st , Polly lived across the street at 18 thrawl st . Catherine Eddows was less than 100 yards away in flower & dean street . 80.000 prostitutes living in London . Still just coincidence ? Wake up people !

More reasons for Mary Kelly's continuing popularity:

Her story is a microcosm of Jack's...just as we cannot ID her murderer, we have virtually no confirmable facts about the personal history of "Mary Jean/Jeannette/Jane Kelly",

The gruesome photo is a JtL icon; because it's the only "crime scene" shot it invites people to play detective and try to find clues about the killer and his (or her) victim. It's also a keyhole look at the sad, squalid life of a typical LV prostitute

@baraxor the jack the ripper story is so brutal and helpless that when i first saw pictures and read the accounts of the killings i wasnt able to sleep for about a month without the tv on or being able to hear people talking downstairs. so even 123 years on its still one of, if not THE most shocking murder story ever. i suppose i should have known better than to be researching things like that when i was 12!

@baraxor Absolutely. I maintain that saying 'Murder!' if YOU'RE about to be stabbed is bizarre. It'd be 'Stop', 'Please', 'No', 'Help', 'Don't' etc. A direct request to the assailant.
