Here I am at the Hsi Lai Temple leading fellow students in the Wing Chun first form or "Sil Lim Tao". I study traditional Wing Chun at the California Academy of Martial Arts in Burbank, CA. My Sifu is Todd Shawn Tei. Thanks for viewing.

  • I do shotokan Karate, and i think i should try wing chun....thoughts? (im 14 btw, im not like a pro black belt :P)

  • @PinkLilipop it depends what you want from martial arts - wing chun is a very practical style for real self defense - but it is not flashy like Shaolin Kung Fu or Choi Le Fut and it is definitely not used in competition sports like karate or MMA.

  • what is the point of these forms?

when do you ever use them in combat/sparring/fighting?

    thanks

  • @Acification95 almost every martial art uses forms or katas so the student can practice and perfect the movements of the system, without the need for a partner. Forms and katas can prepare you for sparring training, but only sparring with a partner can teach you how to fight.

  • some of your hand movement dont match what i have been shown and seen many others do. whats all that about?

  • @dopeydan1986 After Ip Man opened up Wing Chun to the world, several distinct variations became widely practiced. The most popular seems to be the modified, Chan Wah style that Ip Man taught his older son, Ip Chun and many of his best students. The style we practice is the more traditional wing chun that Ip man learned from Leung Bik and taught to his younger son, Ip Ching. The variations are minor and the core concepts are the same, but people love to argue about it which is better.

  • @LordJinto they were in a rush i guess:)

  • @dopeydan1986 nearly every wing chun school teaches it (slightly) different.

  • @Acification95 it includes techniques to attack and defend, every move has some use.

  • @PinkLilipop wing chun is alot more about technique rather than strength, but before you get the yellow belt you'll probably have learned one simple technique to get somebody knock-out in one easy hit

  • The person who taught me Wing Chun was my Gym Teacher and He said that the wing chun stance is like a tree your legs has to be the Trunk and your arms has to be like the branches strong but smooth. To me it seems like the legs needs more work but your arms are really smooth like branches in a windy day I love it lol I dont know a lot so I should not judge lol

  • @PinkLilipop If you've seen the movie Ip Man, you will recognize a lot of movements in many wingchun vids on youtube. Like: punching with straight arms, very powerful and with a lot of tension. But the most important thing is when learning Wing Chun is that your teachers tell you to relax when performing movements and defend and attack at the same time. If you find this in what ever Wing Chun style and you like your teacher and his students, than go for it :D PS: watch some vids from moyinggerk

  • you have some smoothness to your technique but man that was performed way too fast
