For information on pet capybaras, please see my blog at www.GiantHamster.com. In this video, 15-month-old Garibaldi Rous enjoys a good scratching. Notice how his hair stands on end when he is happy. Also, notice that he bit the wrist strap for my camera in half (took like 5 seconds!) and so now I can't keep it around my wrist. Sorry that it appears in the shot sometimes.

  • does it bark?

  • @wav5000kb Yes. All capybaras can bark. I have a video called "Capybara Bark" and one called "Lesser Capybara Bark". I don't have any of Garibaldi barking. Capys don't bark very often so it is hard to get on camera.

  • I was reading your blog and caplin died?? that makes me sad

  • @2young4coffee99 I will never get over losing Caplin Rous. He was the most special animal I have ever known. I founded the ROUS Foundation for Capybara Veterinary Medicine in conjunction with Texas A&M University School of Veterinary Medicine in his memory.

  • @caplincapybara I have 2 things to ask you did he pass away from the grass eating.

and how many capybaras do you have now

  • @2young4coffee99 Please see the blog post from January 6, 2011 and February 3, 2011. Caplin's died from liver damage that is unlikely to have been caused by the grass but it is not impossible. The cause of the liver damage is not known. It is also possible that Caplin's liver was always bad or that it was damaged when he was neutered. I have one capybara now, Garibaldi Rous.
