The first beam circulating the LHC full ring!

I was in CERN Main Auditorium watching the startup of LHC. After the two spots flashed on the screen, the beam finally circulated the full ring, followed by a burst of applause . It's a historic moment in high energy physics!

Actually, the first beam is only 450 GeV, far from the energy which is theoretically possible to create a mini-size and short-life black hole.

Dry runs began today, the entire machine is complete PO 2 checkout in all sectors, and green light (correct temp, resistance, superconductance) in EVERY single magnet and busbar.

Long beam lifetime collisions should begin around the beginning of March, with first physics at 3.5TeV sometime around mid-March to April 1.
