Round 18 - Brazil - F1 2010 Championship - 3 Laps

A turn 1 collision in Korea gave me the advantage but arriving at turn 2 first, I overcooked it on the exit allowing the aussie to take first place again and also allowing Kubica to sneak through into 2nd. Managing to out-brake Kubica into turn 3 and take my place back in 2nd, for the remainder of that lap followed a wheel to wheel battle with Mark Webber for 1st place.

Lap 2, Turn 2, the scene of the earlier spin, a moment of under-steer caused me to go off track, allowing Kubica back through into 2nd. From then on it was a hunt which never quite materialised. But when Mark Webber crossed the finish line in 1st place, Kubica following in 2nd, Webber was demoted. Eventually ending with a 6th place, my championship rival had received some sort of penalty. This meant I was now promoted to 2nd place and more importantly, extended my lead over Webber, Button finishing only 10th. Now my total points at the top of the drivers table stood at 276, Webber second with 238 and Button in 3rd Place with 224 thanks to his single 10th place point.

(SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THIS VIDEO!!!).

Brazil required a 3rd place finish by myself to win the Championship only if Webber won. If he came second, I'd only need to get 7th place to win the title. When the lights went out, Webber got ahead, by turn 2 I was on his tail. Then half way through Lap 1, I managed to pass him...Then disaster struck, I touched the grass when breaking into turn 10! This allowed Webber back through and Kubica collided with my rear right, losing his front wing. Then at turn 13, a massive lock up saw Webber increase his lead up the hill to the start-finish line.

Lap 2, turn 8 exit, again I hit the grass and this allowed Schumacher through to 2nd. I was now in the bottom end of the winning scenario. Schumacher was driving away in 2nd place, I was counter-steering a slide and I could see the 4th place man edging around me. I managed to contain the slide and get back on the power, following Michael up the hill and into the final lap. Then into turn 1, my tires failed me, they had fallen away and I went out too wide, this allowed 4th place man Luizzi!!!!! through and almost allowing Vettel into 4th. I could not win the title in Brazil with Webber out front and me sat in 4th place. I managed to contain Vettel right through until turn 10, the wicked turn 10 exit had punished me all race, Lap 3 was no exception, running slightly wide on the exit allowed Vettel through into 4th. I was now down into 5th place, but this was not the end, we still had Abu Dhabi. I followed Vettel through the final turns and ended up wheel to wheel, side by side right up the hill, ultimately his speed gave him 4th place by a tenth of a second.

Finishing 5th and Webber finishing 1st meant that my points on the board now stood at 286 and Webber at 263, 23 points down. Vettel had overtaken Button to 3rd place on the board with 235 points, Button was now out of contention for the title with only 230 points, but still had a shot at 3rd place.

The constructors title looked even more close. McLaren stood out in front with 516 points and Red Bull in 2nd with 498. With only 18 points in it and a possible best 43 available in Abu Dhabi, I'd have to work with Button to ensure the Red Bulls didn't finish high enough to take the trophy.
