Historian Simon Schama examines the English Reformation, predominately the events of the Henrician Reformation. Covers not only the political factors and the role of certain prominent persons, including Thomas Cromwell, but also looks at how the changes had an impact lower down in society and how the physical structure of the local parish church changed.

  • I much prefer this style of documentary where there are no cheesy reenactments. I want to see the architecture and the art of the day not some glob dressed in period costume bounding about. Thanks loads Schama and the poster of the video.

  • Thank you for uploading the episode. I agree that Schama has a tendency to use a paragraph where a sentence will suffice, but that's part of his literary panache.

Of course. The priest must perform sacraments and lead the community to the Gospel !

  • @ProtestantThomas

Calvinism does not work:God does not have favourite and chooses half of the world to go to hell. Predestination is against God's nature.

  • @xxxmcrblackrosesxxx u watching it in school...?????

  • ugh i have to watch this for school

  • No way. I don't want worship in a church devoid of colour and warmth and no liturgy. We are not roman catholics but protestant who have the best of both. We are what the church could have been if it had listened to Luther. Any way we are all part of the catholic church and it has nothing to do with the Pope and Rome. Have you read the creeds?

Calvanism is not soley responsible for the modern world. Many of the English social reformers were anglican

  • One year after the tolerant and loved Queen Mary of Scotland was executed by the Reformers, the Catholic Philip V of Spain invaded England with his Armada, perhaps - urged on by Mary's execution.

Calvin was an apostate Jew, who used Divide and Conquer tactics to destroy Christianity in Europe.

  • More Kosher Bullshit, no blood?

Henry invaded southern Scotland and razed towns and border abbeys in a so-called "rough wooing".

Cardinal Beaton and others were Murdered BY the Reformers.

English attacked Scotland again in 1548, Scots asked the French to intervene. They sent 7000 troops

French surendered in the Treaty of Edinburgh.

St Andrews was Occuied and sacked (a magnificent cathedral.)

Queen Mary was executed1587, By orders of the English govt, all her possessions were burned.

  • Calvin (nee Cohen) was a Jew...

  • @StSimonMartyr

No blood was spilled during the Scottish Reformation, difference being it was a conversion to Calvinism.
