Pierre Vellones - Marche Triomphale

Pierre Vellones (1889 - 1939 ) : Marche Triomphale op. 13

Between April and October 1915, Pierre Vellones stayed in Louvercy (Champagne) in a comfortably furnished room (he had brought a piano !) where he composed, in July, a "Marche Triomphale" for piano. On the 1st of October 1918, he saw in "Lectures pour tous" the advertise for a "great musical contest" for a "Victory March" that should "echo on all pianos" when the victorious soldiers would march under the Arc-de-Triomphe. The contest would be closed the 1st of November. Since October 1918, Pierre Vellones transformed his "Marche Triomphale" to "Marche de la Victoire" and dedicated it to the Maréchal Foch.
In April 1922, he introduced it at the Comoedia's contest under the title of "Cortège d'Athlètes". A second prize will be awarded to him by a jury which sat Alfred Bruneau, George Hüe, Sylvio Lazzari, André Messager and Albert Roussel.

Entre avril et octobre 1915, Pierre Vellones séjourna à Louvercy (Champagne) dans une chambre confortablement aménagée (il y avait fait venir un piano !) où il composa, au mois de juillet, une "Marche Triomphale" pour piano. Le 1er octobre 1918, il relevait dans "Lectures pour tous" l'annonce d'un "grand concours musical" pour une "Marche de la Victoire" devant "retentir sur tous les pianos" quand les soldats vainqueurs défileraient sous l'Arc-de-Triomphe. Le concours devait être clos le 1er novembre. Dès octobre 1918, Pierre Vellones transformait sa "Marche Triomphale" en "Marche de la Victoire" et la dédiait au Maréchal Foch.
En avril 1922, il la présentera au concours de Comoedia sous le titre de Cortège d'Athlètes. Un second prix lui sera attribué par un jury où siégaient Alfred Bruneau, George Hüe, Sylvio Lazzari, André Messager et Albert Roussel.
