This is video of my GSD Captain's first AKC obedience trial. We are competing in Novice A level of obedience. His on leash heeling was horrendous as he was very distracted. We NQ'd on the SFE and he sat up on his long down but did not move but would have NQ'd there as well. The figure 8 was so bad its possible we would have lost enough points to NQ there as well. His off lead heeling was surprisingly good, and his recall was good except for a crooked finish--and I gave a verbal and hand signal to finish, when only one or the other is allowed. The Judge was Robert Self, Jr. He was extremely nice :-) as was everyone else at the trial. I am in the process of looking for local group classes to get him over his distraction issue and distrust of strangers. Without major distraction, he performs all the exercises consistently and quite well.
