"Put out the Flame." Those words were atop every player's armband on the Buhach Colony football team during Friday's game against Lodi High.

The Thunder (4-0) established momentum early, scoring two touchdowns within the first seven minutes of the game in a 42-7 victory over the Flames in non-league action at Bear Creek High School.

During their first possession, the Thunder demonstrated their effective running game slowly inching their way into the end zone.

It wasn't until the play that scored their second touchdown, a 53-yard connection from quarterback Nick Datray to Joseph Marquez, that the Thunder threw the ball for the first time.

Coming off last week's sprained ankle injury, Flame quarterback David Simon fought back by calling Lodi's own collection of running plays.

After a quick march up the field and back-to-back Thunder penalties, Simon changed the tempo with a quick 35-yard pass up the middle to Louie Conti Lodi's only touchdown of the game.

"Lodi ran the ball well," said Thunder head coach Kevin Swartwood. "For a team that runs for over 200 yards a game, the team has potential we can't ignore."

After Buhach's Tayce Webster ran the ball 57 yards for his team's third touchdown in the first half, the Flames struggled to answer.

The Thunder continued to grind it out in the second half, scoring three more rushing touchdowns on runs by Leon Miles, Kevin Kelleher and Stefon Gold.

"Morale is something the team doesn't lack," Lodi head coach Todd Dillon said after the Flames fell to 0-3. "Even though we didn't get to capitalize on our opportunities, the team didn't let those situations get to them."

While the Buchach Colony Thunder will be enjoying a bye week next Friday, the Lodi Flames will be taking on city rival Tokay.

"We got a lot out of this game," Lodi wide receiver T.J. Ortiz said. "I feel like we're going to be ready to take on Tokay next week."
