Slow Motion AR15 shooting, the bullet shockwaves are hard to see on my 1st upload, so I put them in slow motion. Hopefully they will be visible now.
Distance is 180 yards, filmed at about 48X digital and optical zoom. The long focal length amplifies changes in air density etc, and you can see the shockwave from the bullets coming in from the lower right side of the video into the target.
The target is made from 3/16 inch thick steel, with 2 sheets of paper taped onto it.
Rifle is a DPMS AP4, .223 shooting 55 grain FMJ rounds. I know I shot a pretty lousy group but it was windy and the trigger pull is way to high on the stock gun in my opinion...has anyone put a JP adjustable trigger into an AR15?

  • @vicdougle There's no vapor...

  • audible BBS are more fun than the visible ones

  • what range are those targets at?

  • phage....its a vapor trail..... end of story

  • alright then, if u want to correct someone, then tell the people on the military channel.

  • No, the vapor trail is when the compression and decompression of the air forces evaporated liquids (water) out of the air as vapor. It would look like a thin cloud. I don't see any vapor, all I see is a shock wave.

  • lol good vid. it is also known as the vapor trail. good shooters use that alot. ( not that i am a good enough shooter)

  • that is awesome ,never seen that before, great vid:) 5*S

  • No, mirage is the heat wave coming up from the ground. The "swirls" are what is called the bullet trace by "those in the know."

  • It doesn't have to be a warm day to see the "swirls". The disrupted air trail the bullets leave behind are called "mirages" by those in the know.
