This is the last train crossing video I've taken to date.

I waited about 35 minutes for this train, because the train signals had come on half an hour sooner than they usually do (from what I've seen, they come on only minutes before the train comes through).

I had stood for about 25 minutes staring at the gates through the camera, because I thought it was going to come right through; thankfully when I finally decided to move around, I heard the Main St gates lowering in time for me to get back into position. =P You can hear them in the distance at the start of the video.

Around 0:43 is when you can really hear that weird high-pitched sound coming from the tracks. Anyone know what the heck this sound is? Grounding static buildup from the train approaching or something?

1:27 you can hear the train blowing its horn to pass under the High St bridge.

  • this is the same crossing as Commuter Rail Crossing 2, yes?

  • Yes, all my train crossing videos so far have been at one of three crossings: Here; Main St, which is where this train just went through before passing by me; and downtown Framingham, MA.

Also, this has a much better horn than the MBTA commuter trains. XD

  • Katsuki, this is one of the most powerful train videos I've seen. An amazing capture with some luck that there was good horn action from the engineer!

  • Thank you very much! Yes, that was definitely good horn action, I was so happy with the way it came out. =)

  • I heard a steam engine in the background

  • That looked like a Northeast Regional train but by 2008 the Boston section of the Lakeshore Limited was the only Amtrak train running on this line. What's up with that? Temporary detour for drawbridge repairs on the Shoreline or something?

  • @KatsukiLennox that horn echo is so sick at like 0:46

  • yeah the tracks make that sound whenever a train is approaching, its very annoying to me but its a good sign a train is coming

  • Yeah someone else had said it could be that, and that does sound like it's possible.

  • I don't doubt that you heard something, I've heard rails make noices as trains approch. The rails do vibrate and the hissing may be the metal parts holding the rails to the ties rubbing together.
