Becoming Reality: Chp 1: Connections

i have the first 10 chapters written so hopefully they'll all be up pretty quickly... let me know what you think suggestions always welcome :)
background: Devon: 17 years old, high school senior, best friends Sam and Sara

I walked into the house to see my dad sitting on the couch reading a local newspaper. Someone had given him the newspaper so he could read one of the articles. Little did I know how life changing that article would be. One of the pictures on the front caught my eye. It looked like Miley Cyrus dressed as Hannah Montana with a man I didn't recognize. I thought it was a bit odd that they would have an article on Miley in the local newspaper so I thought I was mistaken.
"This might interest you," Devon, my dad told me as I walked over to the couch. He continued on as he handed me the paper, "I went to school with this guy and now he's the director of Hannah Montana."
"Really?!?! That's pretty cool," I replied as I took the article to examine it further.
"Maybe he knows other people too," my mom chimed in from the recliner.
"Oh My God!! I know wouldn't that be amazing!" I said with excitement. I knew only too well that she was talking about the amazing Jonas Brothers. My mom knew of my obsession with the boys, and the only one in my house that somewhat understood. My mom didn't hesitate to point out the connection.
The next day I sat by my locker for my friends to arrive at school. As I saw my friend Sam walking down the hall I tried to contain my excitement. Amazingly I remained surprisingly calm as she approached where I sat.
"Guess what I learned yesterday?" I asked her still hiding my excitement.
"What?" Sam questioned she had no idea what I was going to tell her, but I think she sensed it was huge.
"My dad went to high school with the director of Hannah Montana!" I practically shouted with all the excitement I had been containing.
"Really? Wait, does he know certain people, like say perhaps a certain band of brothers?" It surprised me how close our reactions were.
"That's what I was thinking. I'm going to see if my dad will e-mail him when I get home," I replied with an air of confidence. I had no reason to believe that this would work, but I had a feeling it would.
When I got home I politely asked my dad if he could e-mail the director and see if he would set up a meeting with the Jonas Brothers. He said he would try, but no promises. My dad wrote an e-mail saying congrats on becoming director of Hannah Montana and as a P.S. he asked if there was any way he could get the Jonas Brothers to meet me.
The next day when I got home from school my dad was waiting for me, "I got an e-mail from the director today."
