I think it's far more likely that no one told her that the government had decided to let her marry Peter. Their are some very cold hearted people who run the royal family and I can believe that far more than Margaret just fell out of love.

I agree. The idea that she knew of the government's growing acceptance but decided to go ahead with calling it off really does beggar belief.

I feel for Margaret, she didn't want to do to the country the same thing that had happened about 20yrs before, even if she wasn't the monarch. It's so sad that she and Peter were made to suffer like this.

I don't think you could blame Princess Margaret for not wanting to give up her position and well, money. She was born to privilege, it is hard to give everything up. It's like giving up her life or something, and this doesn't mean that she didn't love Townsend.

No, actually she loved money and position more that Cpt. Peter Townsend. They should have married. Look what's happening now in the Royal family, divorce and affairs all over still.
