This is my first time cantering Star on the rail! She is a 15.3 hh thoroughbred, and I had sooo much fun on her today. She is the horse that I ride for 4-H, and hopefully will be showing her by next year in Hunter classes!

  • just push into your heels a bit more and hug a bit with your calf, this will make your leg stay back a bit more. Try the 2 point canter also if you're going to start jumping.

  • my calf was pretty tight on her, but i dont really want to 2 point on her at the canter until i get the canter at the seat down :) since i just started english about 2 months ago after doing western for 6 years its hard to keep my heels down with short stirrups ... but im trying :)

  • I think you did quiet well and youwere riding on the back of the cantle because the saddle was to small for you. you could try having a light seat isntead of sitting the canter fully if people are corecting you lots about it but thats more hunterish.. the only thing I really noticed after I watched a few times what that she slowed down and sped up and points which is no big deal but you seemed to get left behind for a stide when it happened. good luck showing her

  • well it was my first time cantering her on the rail, ya and when she sped up I kinda got left behind :( U probably saw her speed up and then i started bouncing hahaha i thought that was funny! We will be showing in hunter ... but on the flat, not over fences

  • well you did awsome. yeah your heals weren't down but they were flat and thats how dressage people ride so really in my books no big deal itll come with time. I thought you did really well on her. youll get use to the tempo if you really sit and push will your seat she should stay will you and your movement. well mine does and I know every horse is different. you should do good with the flat just put your heels down for the judges haha

  • hahah thanks .... im trying by best to keep my heels down, its just tht my boots are super new and need to be worn in a bit more ... tht was the second time i wore them :)

  • nothing to critique

  • my instructer told me to act like its a swing, so your always pushing with your butt, keep your heels down, just incase she stops (experence!!) i ride a thoroughbred like yours, just act like your on a swing, minus the pumping of your legs, your should start to get a better seat with it, and kind of sit on your butt bone, sounds weird but i will help you stay in the saddle. But you looked really good on her :)

  • wow, great job for your first canter! you look great!

I would say, like the person filming this said, sit deeper and push your horse with your seat. Other than that, for your first time, you look really good! Keep up the good work! :)

  • omg I so understand I hated breaking mine in. specially the winter ones ugh.. haha. I have a hard ass time with my heels because I grip so much with my knees to sit with my horse because she is so rough...

  • haha lucky! u got to canter english before me. haha. but im cantering tomorrow haha. i have new pics and stuff!! im gonna put them all on soon. yay!
