Sterkfontein Dam has great speed potential in a bay on the northern side that's 250m in length. It has swell at the start and an abrupt end, but is a great training ground for speed and regularly gets strong wind May-Sept.
This is an average run (48.5 max, 44.5 ave), but it gives a good perspective of the run start to end and shows what's possible with almost no run up while it's blowing 25-30 knots.
It doesn't always help getting stronger wind as it creates more chop and wrap around swell on the inside. It's very sensitive to the wind angle in this regard.
Best speeds recorded here to date are :
52.28 peak, 51.25 100m, 46.4 10 second ave. and 45 250m.
