This video portrays the singer - composer - pianist, Tania Maria, in her finest musical form. She is famous for hitting the stage like a hurricane and not ever letting up on the intensity of her performance throughout the entire show!

Considered by most fans and colleagues as the best and most versatile band that Tania Maria ever put together, this performance features John Peña on bass, Frank Colón on percussion, and Walfredo Reyes, Jr. (El Conde), on drums!

This song is titled, "Made In New York".

  • amazing... such a punchy kick from the drums and a tight rhythmic section, just amazing

  • @slapmyfunkybass Hey, thank you for spreading the love! Working on this show was a real groove!!!

  • @drumbuddha wow! you worked on it, as in you played, if so, was it drums? if you did could you tell me, it sounds like the first beat is pushed, played a 16th early, did tania ask for this, or did it just happen naturally? thanks for the info...

  • @slapmyfunkybass I was on percussion! And, no...Tania didn't specifically ask for this. It's just that when she presented this idea and rough sketch to us, it already had this kick to it. As soon as we played it twice, it naturally fell into this groove.

Btw, at the time of this taping in Baden-Baden, Germany, this same band had been on the road together for about one-and-a-half years!

  • @drumbuddha thanks for the info... great percussion playing btw, your timing is amazing

  • I FEEL THE FUNK

  • @drumbuddha this came out before crack and aids came out

  • @durgaaa Actually, math was never one of my strong subjects. But, I digress... yes, this is right after we recorded "The Real Tania Maria: WILD!" in San Francisco, after which she cut the band down from 6 to only four musicians. And, it remained a quartet, I believe, during '83 & '84. Late '84, I went with Harry Belafonte to record his HBO Special in Winnipeg, Canada and then moved to Rio de Janeiro in '85. The Manhattan Transfer brought me back to the USA in '87......

  • @drumbuddha - So you can't remember, Frank. I had lunch at a private house with her in Berkeley in 1982 or 83. She was laughing her head off and acting very silly with a group of us. She's a wild one. I'll bet this was anywhere from 1980 to 83. How many moons is that? Are you good at math?
