This is a view of the degree 4 version of a 3D Mandelbrot fractal formula introduced and described at www.fractalforums.com by Daniel White and Paul Nylander.
It was rendered using my own "directional" distance estimator method in Ultra Fractal and was rendered as 500 frames a 640*480. The render took around 55 hours on my old 3GHz P4HT probably running at around 2GHz because of overheating and performing other tasks while rendering.
The original uncompressed 439MB AVI file was converted to a 10.1MB h264 mov file in best quality mode (multipass) before uploading to YouTube.

  • Awesome!

I hope your friends lends your the gear..

  • Thanks.

Me too, will try next weekend :)

  • As always, very Beautiful. When can we have the full length 'Block Buster!'

  • Ermmm - when I get a faster machine ??

If you didn't notice this took over 2 days to render :)

I'm hoping that Steve (who I work with) will allow me the use of his Dual-Quadcore Xeon machine for a Saturday or a weekend to render a proper fly around the "buds" either on a degree 4 or degree 7. (That would have rendered this in an estimated 2 hours raher than 2 days but more important it would make setting up a more interesting render a lot easier).

  • @neonwind I now have a dual 6-core Xeon (Westmere) MacPro :) Cost about the same as a cheap car :( Unfortunately it will be a few weeks before I get chance to use it to create animations as I'm so damn busy :(

  • render rape

  • is it grows?

  • @MakinMagicFractals Yes I fully understand about having the right tools! it can be so inspiring, not that one can buy ideas or is limited by restrictions (bad work man blames his tools etc) & the cost for art can be something to reckon with!

    Fond regards

  • Neat! It would be really cool to see some of these with anti-aliasing.

  • kale

  • I think it looks more like a certain type of lettuce which name I can't remember right now.

  • a zoom sequence would be sick.
