Here, Bill and Jason learn a move from the Philippine Marine Special Forces.
It is from a style of Eskrima called 'Pekiti Tirsia.'

  • I loves Escrima. I love how Stargate Atlantis incorpated it into the show by having Teyla being a Master of Bantos.

  • i love eskrima,

  • in Eskrima you can use your finger!

  • @Psilosiini its possible they may have done it for show purposes, or to make it easier for the Americans. I practice PTK and we are taught it the same way as you described

  • i really love eskrima

  • @mrkiky And I have to agree with you that there are a lot of better entries against a straight punch. For this technique, I prefer the version used pre-emptively (while the arm is retracted).

  • @mrkiky In my opinion the way the technique is shown on this vid is kinda weird. I've been taught do the beginning in one motion so that both of your hands reach the guys arm simultaneously or to only raise the arm closer to the opponent and go straight for the grab with the other.

It's also worth noticing that the instructor actually does this on a retracted arm in the beginning of the video. That's how I was first introduced to this entry. Difficult as a combo, but useful as a concept.

  • @Psilosiini yea but there's still 2 move till you get to the elbow grab, while the attacker only has to retract his arm....I tried to do this in sparring but with no success. Every time he would've retracted his arm before I could grab it.

  • @mrkiky In the end, it's all just tools. Not an ultimate battle plan. (Sorry for sticking my nose into an old comment, by the way. It just caught my eye)

  • @mrkiky It is true that you have to be quick, but the purpose of controlling the elbow is to prevent the opponent from returning the arm to guard position and delivering a new attack. This'll buy you some time. Furthermore, should your opponent attack you with his other hand before you manage to strike his head after the elbow strike, you can use the same hack motion to guard yourself while evading the attack. You have to learn how your moves might be countered and how to react to these counters

  • Interesting--they mispronounce Pekiti Tirsia and then they call it Escrima, even though they have Grand Tuhon Gaje on the show and he has asked that no one calls it that.
