This is twin brother of FandyFire STL-V2, but a little bit expensive. With armed eye you may notice huge important difference SkyRay version versus Fandyfire - it's heatsink. SkyRay is solid, LEDs MCPCBs glued directly to the flashlight part whereas Fandyfire LED module made as drop-in module, so in this case we have poor heatsink.
Build quality of Sky-Ray is very good - solid, without lifting. Heat conduction is good: LEDs mounted directly to the flashlight body.
LEDs connected in series, so driver has boost topology. In this case we can assume at least 80% efficiency (I will assume 85% in calculations).
Current drawn at HI mode from two 4.05 V Li-Ions is 2.7 Amp. So total power to the LEDs is 8.1*2.7*0.85=18.6 Watt. Assume LED voltage drop is 3.1 Volt. In this case LEDs current is 18.6/9.3 = 2 A. Assuming max junction temp is 100 degrees, LED efficiency is 100 lm/W, total luminous output is 18.6*100 = 1800+ lumens!
Pros: solid, but not glued - easy to disassemble for further upgrade; powerful; huge amount of light output; deep discharge battery cut-off so you can use unprotected Li-Ion batteries - termination voltage about 3.0 volts each [not tested].
Cons: bad focus due to small reflector size; bad electric contact with negative wire (ground) on PCB.
P.S. Sorry for poor video quality and quiet audio - captured by webcam.
P.P.S. Captured with Microsoft LifeCam Studio and VirtualDub-1.9.11

  • So is this skyray as bright as trustfire tr-3t6??? So they both have 1800lumena?? Really, so much? I thought it was ahout 1600 or less, but you know better than me:) answer please! Thanx

  • @morominaolenmina subj realy has 1700 lumens as described, but this lumens are "wide", flood light. This means flashlight produce a lot of uniform light instead of directional. If you need far throw, buy zoomable torch with lens (best throw) or single LED reflective with huge reflector for good focus.

  • hello friend! first of all, your video was very usefull! i just bought an 3800 skyray for myself thanks to you, it should arrive in 20 days, i hope =). can you please give me some help? ive been searching on google but found nothing... the thing is, is there any way to boost the flashlight output? does it take some advanced wiring? i dont understand how does the voltage work, but i found some videos of some guys putting 3x3.7 batteries instead of 2. can it damage the flashlight? thanks!!=)

  • @oms88 Hi. If you put 3 cells in factory default skyray it will burn. BTW, my 3800's driver (PCB in head) burned after few hours of work in MID mode - thats China, it's normal. If u buy custom driver from, for example, CPF forum members you can achieve 3 amps through the LEDs but you should worry about thermal performance. In this case you also need to change wirings with thick copper wires.

  • I think I can recognise some radiotehnika speakers in your room, am I right?:D But I'm not sure that they are Radiotehnika S-30B...

  • @gabrielrhv you are almost right, it's S-90B

Let's whip out the ol lux meter

  • Cmon man think about it thiers no way the XML can handle more than 1000 each..

Well safely at least..that's an aweful lot of power to be pushing through those emitters..

Besides the only reason I'm saying that is cause a freind of mine has a skyray and it's rated at like 600 lumens with the xpg-r5 and I know daaamn well that r5 cannot go that high

  • @04mach1speed Oh really?????? My TRUSTFIRE 3800 LUMENS 3x XM-L T6 says you're wrong!

  • Sorry that's not 3800 lumens

The XML cam only handle 1000 each
