On June 30, 2008, filmmaker Catherine Pancake discussed her riveting documentary, Black Diamonds: Mountaintop Removal and the Fight for Coalfield Justice. She indicated that federal legislation would be needed to end this insidious method of coal mining, which is laying waste to large areas of Appalachian mountain peaks in her native state of West Virginia. Ms. Pancake said that stopping mountaintop coal removal is a moral issue. For background, please see the following web sites:Black Diamonds: Mountaintop Removal and the Fight For Coalfield Justice;

Those who support mountain top removal only live in the moment, too blinded by the propaganda and the instant gratification of the "big money" to realize that when the mountains and coal are gone so is the money. It's the ones who don't live here who will "go home" with their pockets full and leaving Appalachia in poverty and ruin again.

Maybe if YOU stopped using electricity (COAL) they wouldn't NEED to mine coal? I bet you're a PETA activist that eats lunch at Burger King too!

Less than 5% of all coal mined comes from Mountain Top Removal. We can easily live without this extremely damaging technique for extracting coal. Educate yourself.
