Around the billionth time listening to the greatest song ever written, I noticed a couple things about the outtro. Firstly that the band stops playing before it fades out completely, secondly that the second and third run through of the chorus is actually the same one, repeated. My theory is that originally the song was supposed to end with the chorus performed three times with no fade out, as performed live during the AD tours (in later shows they sometimes shorten it further by just playing the chorus twice), and that the decision to extend the outtro and have it fade out came later. This is a quickie attempt to hear how the song originally would've ended with the fade-out reversed and the repeated chorus omitted.
This is something I had tried before but the hiss level at the end made it too unclear. The clarity of the remastered edition of 'Angel Dust' from MoFi (which this is sourced from) is a lot better, although you can tell the last couple seconds of quality degrades noticeably. Probably with more time someone could do a better job but this is what I whipped up over a spare half hour or so.
A good comparision between the original and remastered edition of 'Angel Dust':

  • best song ever LOL!!!!!!!!!!! yeah right. I would hardly call fnm second attempt to hit the pop charts the greatest song ever. Its not even in the same league as the greatest song/or songs ever written and performed. A patton song thats up in that league (but no where close to winning) would be Dead Goon.

  • @rwk1983 Well technically this was their sixth attempt to hit the pop charts. And, like most of them, it was successful. Judging by your last sentence you're just still in the 'yummy phase' of musical appreciation. Don't worry about it.

  • @PhatBoyMedia what about Evil Satan, or Jumping part 2

  • @Velvetaeroplane1 What about them? What do I think of them? I like the Bungle demos, they're a lot of fun and fascinating from a standpoint of knowing how the band evolved to see where their sound originated from. In their own rights though the demo songs are structurally a little patchy and adolescent. I'd even go so far as to extend that sentiment to some of the tracks on their first album (in the full appreciation that people might turn on me).

  • the original ending was kept in Rock Band 3

  • Erano secoli che aspettavo di sentirla...

  • @PhatBoyMedia Crap I'm sorry I ment to reply this to rwk1983. I feel bad sorry

  • @Velvetaeroplane1 and that it flows

  • The fade makes it better.. so to say

take sweet emotion by aerosmith for example. The solo fades out and at first i hated that but now i like it cuz of the build up

  • @rwk1983 Would appear people aren't allowed personal opinions these days, shit me.

  • Why are you talking about the pop charts? I would hardly call FNM a commercial band. They released a lot of singles but they were far too eclectic to have any kind of mainstream support.
