The two tubes running from the release valve to the flushometer tank itself have pressurized air in them. Opening the release valve releases the air holding down the flush valve. These EcoFlush flushometer tanks do have some reliablilty issues related to the release valve.

These flushometer tanks work well, but they have a weakness- the release valve.

@MattRisinger I'll only even talk about 1.6GPF. 1.28GPF toilet makes me laugh when I'm not in a bad mood. I'd only get a 1.28GPF if I can rig it to 2GPF+. American 1.28GPF toilets like some from AS and KOHLER, Glacier Bay, Jacuzzi, Pegasus, are all a clear beacon of how pathetic these bullshit environmental laws are, what are we trying to create 2nd world disease? I'll gladly purchase a 4GPF Gerber from the 70s, 80s or 90s or a rig an current 1.6GPF Gerber i.e., but I hate our ultra-left gov't..

@CanadianToolGuy416 Yes, this next generation of low flow is MUCH better. This has a pressure bladder inside the tank that really does a nice job of clearing the bowl. I think my in-laws paid around $250ish for this model so it's pretty well priced for a well flushing toilet. I'm always scared when I see toilets for $100 at the orange box store.
I appreciate the review, but 1.1GPF (Yeah, 1.6GPF really helps)? PASS ! I'll stick to my 3-4GPF toilets, you can keep your practically waterless unsanitary eco-shit.

@KingMacintosh I remember the first generation of 1.6GPF toilets and you're right they were not as good as the larger tank old models. But, today I'll put any Toto model 1.6GPF vs an old school 4GPF and the Toto will flush identically. This new generation on toilets really perform very well.
