SHAKESPEAR:
Today one of Guinea-Bissau's most powerful men was buried at a state funeral in the country's capital. President Joao Bernardo Vieira was killed at his home last week. Here's more from Guinea-Bissau.
STORY:
Family and friends as well as the country's new interim president and prime minister attended President Vieira's funeral. He was shot dead while at home last week.
His assassination was done to avenge the death of army chief General Batista Tagme Nai Wai, who was President Vieiras rival.
President Vieira's widow, Isabelle, and their children watched the ceremony as military officials and politicians paid their respects at the National Assembly.
Soon after her husband's death, Isabelle Vieira took refuge in the Angolan embassy. There are fears that more attacks may be carried out targeting Vieiras supporters.
Guinea-Bissau's prime minister says the army has given its commitment to obey the current president and his administration.
