  • First off, I've watched so many of your videos and I REALLY respect what you do, Jared. Drum tips for free?! You wouldn't get that anywhere! The very few drums lessons I DID get were so expensive.

After watching the Linear Drum fill, I see you were using a pedal (Not sure what make) that had a Direct Drive instead of a chain, if I'm correct? Or something similar to that? What are your views on Direct Drive over Chain/Double Chain? Just looked into Axis Pedals...SOO expensive... Thanks man!! :)

  • @snakespence The pedals I'm using are Gibraltar Intruder Direct Drive pedals. By far the most affordable direct drive pedal on the market. Also, check out the direct drive Yamaha Flying Dragons...those are really nice as well.

Glad you like the drum lessons! Keep practicing!

  • Good vid, but I find your demonstration of a double stroke roll at 0:26 very misleading. The clue is to open/close the hand on first and second stroke to use the rebound for the second stroke. One should never play out of the wrist like you do in 0:26, but out of the fingers.

  • @securitysystem Glad you like the vid..however, I completely disagree with you. Drummers can play out with the wrists if that's what they need to do to achieve the power and volume that they want. There aren't rules like that. There is not only one way to hold the sticks, there is not only one way to play a single stroke roll, and there is not only one way to play a double stroke roll...there are thousands. Thanks for your constructive feedback though! All the best!

  • @freedrumlessons

You are actually right in what you say: "Whatever works best is right." But as I see in the vid, you also do not play the second stroke from the wrist, except for the very slow demo in the beginning.

The idea behind my post is keeping young kids from trying to make 2 strokes solely from the wrist and failing in gaining speed, wondering why. ;)

  • @securitysystem Ahhh....I see what you're saying. Thanks SO much for sharing man. Those are definitely some good words of wisdom. At a certain point, yes, you will have to bounce the second stroke.
