Antioch University Decides Womyn's Center Library is Garbage

While I adore the disposal of books in such a manner on principle, to go dumpster diving and post this video without any sort of context is irresponsible. Were the books duplicates (like 3rd and 4th copies)? Did those tasked with managing the collection offer the books to other institutions and received no takers? We simply don't know from this piece. I can tell you that Antioch has offered *many* books to the community for free and I have about a dozen of them in my office right now.

Maybe they thought that someone who writes "womyn" is somewhat illiterate and so the books are of no value?? =D

There's nothing more unscientific than calling something "Womyn's". Gender studies are good, however not if they clearly aim at a certain research outcome (i.e. "all men are evil and it's the men's fault that women don't have in equal chances in ...") before the actual research even begun. Using the term "Womyn's", well, that's just populism and nothing more :D

this is shameful.

Some of you need a spelling lesson.

Who the fuck is Lovemeknifeyou to judge anyone. I've known Gerry since kindergarten and he hasn't changed from the kind, loving, concerned and certainly intense person that he was and is a bit. Can Lovemeknifeyou say the same? It's easy to sit on your ass and be negative; not so easy to DO SOMETHING about it.

As a former Womyn's Center Coordinator, this footage saddens me greatly. The library was far from organized (something I worked hard to do during my tenure), but the materials should not have been discarded.

For the record...most of those books were donated by famous and/or influential women and are part of a famous library of womyns/GLBT literature. When I was one of the cooridinators of the womyns center, we had phone calls coming in from museums around ohio trying to track down that particular collection. Those books are about as close as you can get to gold in the world of sex/gender literature.
This is beyond irresponsible, on the part of the officials at Antioch University - it is a clear act of erasing the hard work of Antioch College students who built the Antioch College Womyn's Center into an resource for students and other community members.

What then becomes of the contents of the Queer Center, Unidad (Latin American student union), Human Rights Group, BAMN (By Any Means Necessary) and other student-initiated groups that hold within them the heritage of Antioch College, the MOTHER of all Antioch University campuses. Antioch UNIVERSITY is not granting permission to Antioch COLLEGE community members to enter the rooms to see what can be salvaged for future Antioch College students.
