Collection of 3D animations about balance and cranktrain configurations of several kinds of internal combustion engines:
2stroke 2cylinders inline,
4s. 2-4-6cyl. inline,
4s. 2cyl. boxer,
two versions of V8,
V12,
the old W9 and new W16
and a 5cyl. radial engine .
Done using 3d studio max for a univ. project...

Sorry but the W16 at the end contains an error in the crankshaft - I'm working to fix it.

____________
Animazioni 3D sull'equilibrio delle forze d'inerzia di alcune configurazioni di motori a combustione interna:
motore 2tempi 2cilindri in linea,
4t. 2-4-6c. in linea,
4t. 2c. boxer,
due versioni di V8,
V12,

  • Why not shown the forces and moments for the higher order arrangements, e.g. V-8 and up?

  • @Boentgru

Technically the inertial forces of a Vee should be the same of its respective inline engine, because their crankshafts have the same shape. So V8's forces and moments are the same of a 4-inline and the V12 the same of a 6-inline.

Anyway, the different arrangement of pistons can add little components to the forces, but these are often unimportant.

  • What do the blue arrows represent?

  • @BeauKnight96

The blue arrows are the second order inertial forces (first order in red). The rotation of these vectors is only a mathematical representation of an equation containing two harmonic functions.

  • I thought inertial forces ( first and second order ) fluctuated between zero and maximum.

Very nice animations by the way !

  • @frankydevaere yeah, thanks.

and you can see this fluctuation like the projection of a vector in rotation

  • @streincorp thank you. and great video!

  • Intense music... im gettting really excited.

  • Cooool

  • 2:12 FASCINATING...

  • @WShowduh translate this Italian in english: gira più veloce perchè le forze del secondo ordine si muovono al doppio della velocità angolare, rispetto a quelle del primo.

  • @WShowduh these are the two equations of 2nd order forces and moments balancing
