An interview with Tom DeLong, Professor, Harvard Business School. Executives can get more value from their workforce if they recognize and motivate their B players. These solid, steady performers form the bulk of a workforce--and bring crucial forms of value to companies.
Nice interview.

Definitely! B players are the tough ones. They are worthy of honor.

why call people A or B? B is generally < A in popular consciousness isn't it? so your solid citizens are less valuable to you than "A" players who look out only for themselves?

@funandglory But doesn't it make you wonder? Managing the conforming majority has always being the raison d'etre of management. Why is a discussion about managing them so innovative?
All this is is a reminder to any manager not to neglect or overlook the importance of those who are the performers of tasks and not the doers of deeds. And any decent human being shouldn't need training in that.

There is a legit site (syphtr) that tells directors/reps
about "unknown" actors - decent move for us who are still struggling, just FYI.
