An object that may have been a meteor was seen streaking across the sky on Wednesday night, September 14, 2011. Reports say that the object was seen in Southern California, Arizona and Nevada in the United States.

Description: This bolide appeared over the Flinders Ranges, in the South Australian desert on the evening of the 24th April 2011. When I first noticed it, it was about as bright as the international space station (mag -4), but moving much quicker. It suddenly flared up very brightly, then started to fragment. There where about a dozen fragments in total, all of them trailing very smokey tales. By this point it was bright enough to throw shadows, and maybe just off the brightness of the full moon. All the fragments soon faded, but an ionized trail lasted in the sky for about ten seconds afterwards. The bolide itself lasted about seven seconds from the point I noticed it. We waited for a sonic boom, but there wasn't any. I was just in the process of setting my camera up for some star scape photographs later in the night, and managed to turn my camera around and engage it quick enough to catch most of it. I missed the first 3-4 seconds because I have a two second timer on to steady the shot, but caught the majority of it, only missing a small portion well before fragmentation. Unfortunately I was using a high ISO so it's a bit noisy, however I feel this doesn't matter in this instance. It wasn't a Lyrid either because it traveled from roughly NE to W, where as Lyrids radiate from roughly north. This happened around 6:20pm Australian central standard time. I was about 10km south of a small town called Parachilna and my coordinates where -31.218,138.404

@ConservativeNewMedia instead of the air bubbles just rising upwards like they would on a volcanic rock they are flowing backwards almost as though the rock was being hurled over a long distance as the air bubbles were being formed.... any thoughts?

@ConservativeNewMedia The day after the Meteor was seen trailing across the sky my Brother in Law in Chino Hills found an extremely strange looking piece of rock out in the cow fields near his apartment building.... at first he thought it was a huge block of pumice due to how light weight it was... but when he and my niece tried to break it they were unable to... was filled with air bubbles but the direction of bubbles were all wrong.

i think its an alien. i believe that some alien life form got wind via satellites and other electronic devices that scarlett johansson nude photos had been leaked, and was coming to abduct her for the purpose of confirming the genuineness.

@rageahollic33 Wasn't the Satellite, as their website clearly stated that the Satellite will not be entering Earth's atmosphere until the last week of this month. :)

No. The ABC15 video was taken right AFTER the meteor. It is not THE meteor.

I witnessed the green object as it gradually descended from west to east in the southern sky of Phoenix, Arizona. It was burning bright green, and trailing sparks like it was falling apart. It looked vaguely like a comet. I witnessed it for seven seconds and then it disappeared completely. The object was so large that it was hard to gauge its scale and distance at first. It was spectacular!

@MrWoofington Outstanding! Many have described the object as green while the picture that we linked to shows it as orange. I believe I saw in one of the reports that it is common for these objects to change colors as they streak through the sky. Glad you got to see it and share your story here!
