question:
Does any body understand this song? if it belongs to the Samal tribe then may we know what it means?
Thanks..

@philclassic: In addition to what you said, this Pakiring version was already very popular too among the Visayans especially in the countryside. This version was even used during school closing programs and remixes for dance contest long before the version from Erika Macho came out. I used to have a cassette tape of this song and it entirely consumes one side of the tape. My neighbor used to play this every morning in their sing-along karaoke.

wow very nice discovery.. 23 years bago ako naconvinced that its really a filipino song regardless of the language that has been used in it, it's still from the philippines,

this is the original the dialect used here is not a tausug but instead... sinama....or shamal...but the person who used to dance a pangalay is a princess of jolo..he is a tausug...from the history the the owner of sabah(or the north borneo is tausug(orang suluk) and sinama( orang badjao)

@jaymateo : This is actually the original version and I have not heard of any without the speech in the beginning of the song. I first heard this around 1997, only available in casette tapes and has more than 10-minute playing time. There is actually another version of Dayang Dayang that came later - I guess it was the side B of that casette tape. Listen it through this link: watch?v=zSjnweFT4gk

@juan16280: The song is a Pakiring. The Pakiring song-dance is popular to both Muslim Malays and Muslim Filipinos of the Southern Philippines. The one who sing the modern version of Dayang-Dayang which became popular in Manila and elsewhere is not a native from Jolo. She does not speak nor understand the original dialect of the Tausugs, hence, the lyrics of that song, although it sounds similar to the original lyrics, does not mean anything. Inimbento lang ng singer iyon ayon sa maling pandinig

Yesterday we just celebrated the 113th Filipino Independence Day in UAE (Dubai) and this song was played in the program. I was really shocked when I heard this and my reaction was "What the... Its our (filipinos) independence day and your playing an Indonesian/malaysian song?!?! I was so intrigued why they played it and that the Filipino Muslims in attendance where putting money in the girls dress so today the first thing that I search was Dayang Dayang song and this info popped. Its nice to knw

@KiteLAnnE : Yes the original version of "Dayang-Dayang" as presented here in this video originates from our Muslim Filipino brothers of Jolo. The original "Dayang Dayang" was the Princess of the Sultanate of Jolo which includes Sabah.
