While hosting a mobile breast cancer screening event at the Arabic Community Center, the response was smaller than Hiam had hoped for and she didn't like wasting the resources. So she decided to have herself screened, even though she had a mammogram six months earlier. It was during this screening that her breast cancer was discovered. Now, Hiam says, she speaks to families from a first-hand experience, making her "pitch" much more personal and real.
