"Studio" version of this tune found at... http://soundclick.com/share?songid=8619949
...Using a Strat that I recently put together, I loaded a set of the new Kinman P-90 Hx pickups in the bridge and neck positions along with a Kinman AVn-63 Strat pickup in the middle. The AVn-63 is really only used for the 2 & 4 positions (which I didn't use in the video) since position 3 is wired to feature the two P-90s together. My goal was get that unmistakable P-90 plumpness from my Strat, and that's exactly what I got. It's great to be able to use a hi-gain setting from my amp and not have to deal with all the hum that comes with using regular P-90s. The Kinmans are completely noiseless and get me fantastic P-90 signature tones. And they don't feel like a humbucker at all. They feel like fat single coils. These pups are keepers.

  • Rockin out Barney Coopersmith!!

  • @cwfox Thanx. I'm plugged straight into my modified 1982 Fender Concert 1x12 combo. So I'm not using any pedals, but you do hear a slap echo that comes from a separate amp (Fender SFX Satellite) that handles the wet signal only through another 1x12. Both 1x12 cabs are loaded with a Weber California.

  • what amp are you using, and also what pedal(s) are you using, thanks sounds great.

  • @bluesdog88 Thanx. You need a pickguard that is cut for P90s. Warmoth or Terrapin Guitars can cut you a custom pickguard. I ordered mine from Terrapin and it is perfect. And P90s are not designed to be pickguard mounted. They are screwed directly into the body, so in my case the P90s get mounted and then the pickguard gets slipped on over them. You can find humbucker sized P90s that will mount to a SSH pickguard though. Measure your body rout as a P90 is slightly longer than a humbucker.
