yes this is game engine. yes you can import 3ds models (in the official page look on downloads and look around). Yes u can get a free-ware version but is too limited(u can get it from the official page).

The GREAT thing about Dx studio is you can put a player of it in a visual basic 2008 project!

When you import animation on a character do you import the character multiple times with diffrent animations or what?Also do you export the controls toghether with the model or just the model?

Yes, you can.
It depends on your knowledge of games and that you properly plan things out.
Anything is possible in DX Studio as long as you have a goal and a game ready with content :)
