Here's a clip of Tempest arcade game being played by Richard Taylor (EA) on the big screen at the Electronic Theater at SIGGRAPH 2007 in San Diego Civic Center on Aug 8th, 2007. Arcade game was emulated on a computer.
This was a great game, and probably my favorite when I was a junior high kid because it had a sinister, serious feel and sound(s) compared to anything before it. Yes it was considered simple by many friends after only a couple of years after release... but it still mesmerizes today and some of those younger games don't. Tempest was all business about killing stuff and FAST
This was the best Arcade game ever, but the vector graphic CRTs had a reputation for breaking down. The weighted spinning controller was an exciting interface to use, kinda like the ultimate jog wheel on a broadcast VTR.
3 arcades in my town back in the 1980's, only one had Tempest and it was always in use. I never got to play it!

Dude, the top score "ROO" is mine. I was hanging around when the staff was setting up for the show and got to play a few rounds. ^^
