This tutorial is sort of the second part to my "Second Life Mesh from SketchUp" video. This however shows the basic techniques required for the far more advanced task of UV mapping and Texturing your model.

At the very least you will need blender and some image editing software that supports layering (like photoshop or gimp) in order to follow along.

The methods documented in this video are mostly the result of my own trial and error experimentation. There are probably more efficient and even much better methods for some of the tasks demonstrated in my video, if you have a better technique please share in the comments.

  • Nice video, especially when watched after the SketchUp update. Can you maybe post a short video response on importing the mesh into SL with the texture? You didn't show that in the SketchUp to SL video. Cheers.

  • @SLmerryman Thanks for the suggestion but that's not something I would ever do myself since I make my models and textures separately, which is why I never made a video covering it. Seems like an unreliable method to me with more chances for the uploader to introduce errors that would be hard to troubleshoot.

  • Excellent, excellent video. Clear and concise, not too fast, no annoying speech tics.

Gonna have to watch a couple more times, but nice to see the workflow and how its done.

This should apply to any model created or imported into Blender.

Currently I can't import a Triangulate script object from Sketchup 8 without crashing Blender 2.6 (Win XP) so I will have to fix that somehow, or apply what I have learned to objects created in Blender itself.

    Thanks for the info.

  • @DarktownStudi0s Thanks for the kinds words, I was really worried about the quality since I had a lot of trouble editing the video, then it took 13 hours to upload, lol. Great to hear it turned out OK.

  • Great tutorial. It was very helpful, thanks.

  • @neotoy Nah, I'm really fussy about tutorials on Youtube. I'll be recommending this to anyone interested.
