I HEARD AN OLD,
OLD STORY
HOW A SAVIOUR CAME
FROM GLORY
HOW HE GAVE HIS LIFE
ON CALVARY
TO SAVE SOMEONE LIKE ME

I HEARD ABOUT
HIS GROANING,
OF HIS PRECIOUS BLOOD'S
ATONING
THEN I REPENTED
OF MY SIN
AND WON THE VICTORY

OH, VICTORY IN JESUS,
MY SAVIOUR FOREVER
HE SOUGHT ME
AND HE BOUGHT ME
WITH HIS REDEEMING BLOOD

HE LOVED ME
ERE I KNEW HIM
AND ALL MY LOVE
IS DUE HIM
HE PLUNGED ME TO VICTORY
BENEATH THE
CLEANSING FLOOD

I HEARD ABOUT HIS
HEALING,
OF HIS CLEANSING POW'R
REVEALING
HOW HE MADE THE LAME
TO WALK AGAIN
AND CAUSED THE
BLIND TO SEE

AND THEN I CRIED
"DEAR JESUS,
COME AND HEAL
MY BROKEN SPIRIT"
AND SOMEHOW JESUS
CAME AND BROUGHT
TO ME THE VICTORY

OH, VICTORY IN JESUS,
MY SAVIOUR FOREVER

Eugene M. Bartlett (Born: December 24, 1885, Waynesville, Missouri. Died: January 25, 1941 Siloam Springs, Arkansas). - Born in Missouri in 1885 and trained at the Hall-Moody Institute, he began teaching at singing schools. He quickly became a much sought-after teacher, conducting singing schools in several states. If it were not for his efforts along with his friend, Albert Brumley, churches today would have far fewer people who can read music. In 1918 he established the Hartford Music Company which continues to this day run by the family of his friend. He pushed the use of shaped notes and was editor of the music magazine Herald of Song.

After writing several hundred hymns, most of them in a few short minutes, he suffered a stroke, ending his traveling and speaking career. Confined to one room in 1939, unable to communicate, dying, he spend almost a month writing this last song. Although broken in health, unable to speak, he wanted to demonstrate that his faith had not cracked under the suffering. It would be two years before he died in 1941. Some of the Hymns include: Camping in Canaans Land; Everybody Will Be Happy Over There; He Will Remember Me; I Heard My Mother Call My Name in Prayer; Jesus Opened Up the Way; Victory in Jesus

  • Whoa, just noticed; don't wanna be a goody goody tushu, but the lyrics in the descruption have an error.

    "HOW HE GAVE HIS LIFE

    ON CALVARY

    TO SAVE SOMEONE LIKE ME"

    I think it's "a wretch like me". :)

  • I checked several version all say saved someone like me, some people may sing it

as wretch like me because it is similar to

Amazing Grace. Either way as long as you are

praising God you can sing however you like.

I also added some info about the author after

    the lyrics.

  • @sharndan Who is pastor Abel? your pastor?

  • Thank you for sharing this beautiful hymn, despite the drums being a little over powering. None of us are perfect but Him, we must do what we can, and let the love of our Lord finish it in our hearts...Love is not judgemental, It is understanding...Praise be to our Lord, may He Bless and Guide each one of us...

  • @kiekie84 I am afraid you are brainwashed beyond repair. You are nothing but a weak human sheep, stuck inside a shell of ignorance like 90% of all other humans. You will never wake up.
