A root can be expressed as a reciprocal of an exponent. Check out these examples.

The n root of x is equal to x raised to the 1 over n power. That's what reciprocal means.

If we have 100 to the ½ power, that's the same thing as saying the square root of 100 or 10.

Similarly, 8 to the 1 over 3 power is the same thing as the cube root of 8, which is 2.
