If any Soap character deserves legendary status, it is surely Bet Lynch.
The Coronation Street barmaid was a hit with audiences from her first appearance in the 60's right to her recent comebacks.
Bet was glamorous and sassy and she had a glint in her eye and a sharp word for anyone who dared to take her on.
Bet's on-onscreen shenanigans were matched by her off screen lifestyle, and for years Julie Goodyear, the actress who brought Bet to life, was front page news.
Well, now Julie is back. In this interview she talks about what it takes to be a great soap character, her fondest memories on Corrie, the stir caused by Bet's marriage to Alec Gilroy, and also a new "super soap" she is appearing in featuring a star from the street's great rival, Eastenders.
Corrie writers are some of the best, if not THE best. They have good dramatic/comedic styling.

I'm a fan of Julie/Bet, so I don't mean this in a negative way, but she's a sort of female equivalent of Jimmy Savile. Oddly enough the similarity is most apparent with short, straight hair, as in this interview.
