Here is a brief improvisation on my 17-tone Equal Temperament acoustic guitar, using a Pythagorean diatonic scale (for the most part). On this guitar, each fret is 1/17th of an octave (i.e. 1200 cents), so around 70.6 cents. This means the perfect fifth is very slightly sharp, so major thirds are quite sharp and minor thirds are quite flat. In between major and minor intervals, there are "neutral" intervals which sound amiguous and strange, very different from 12-tone Equal Temperament.
@iluvvsmp2 well to oversimplify, he's playing scales that existed in 12-et (diatonic, chromatic), but with the notes sort of stretched in the sharper and flatter direction, and then the new spaces are filled in with new notes that he may or may not use.

You'd be great to jam with. So basically are you kinda playing 12tet but adding in a few 17tet notes in there for a little more zest? perhaps i should study up first

@JLMoriart personally I find the minor third (so the major sixths too) pretty off in 12-edo. I found out about this major discrepency by merely experimenting with a justly tuned scale where Eb = 6/5 of C and A = 5/3 or C. The main issue about minor harmony is that the harmonics responsible for it are barely audible (5th and 6th, or 3rd in some cases...), so there's no way the consonnance between them is valued with minor thirds flat by 15.69cents...

@kratanuva725 i think the perfect fifth will be in the place where a minor sixth would be, so thinking in a 12 notes guitar it would be 4 whole tones between the tonic and the fifth, and not 3,5
i dont know, must be something like that haha
i think ive read something in wiki about it

I really like this sound.

Do you know how to calculate the fret distances for 17-tet? I'm putting moveable frets on my fretless guitar.
