Five people died in this flood; one woman drove her car off a washed-out bridge, four were at a nursing home when an attendant tried to move them to a higher floor using the elevator, which shorted out and instead went to the basement. In the years following, the city built an extensive flood control system along the Zumbro River which runs through the heart of downtown and there has been no major flooding since. Rochester is now home to over 100,000 people.

It's amazing how very little Rochester today looks like Rochester of back then, except in a few spots of the city. Rochester has also basically doubled in size since this flood
