The ford at Fenwick Water in Dean Road, Kilmarnock. I guess this proves a ford will always beat a Vauxhall?! I suspect the car's electrics stopped working before it managed to get to the other side.

Signs had been placed both sides of the ford. (Should have gone to Specsavers.....?!) I guess this proves we should let the authorities decide when it's save to cross a river in spate.

I was speaking to a couple of the locals as well as the emergency services, and they all said that East Ayrshire Council had planned to build a bridge over the ford, as this is a regular occurance when it floods. Sadly, there's no money availible just now. Having said that....four fire engines, a couple of police cars, three coastguard vehicles, an ambulance....! How much does all of this cost when it happens on a regular basis. A temporary solution may be lockable gates, as seen on the coastal road from Largs to Wemyss Bay? they are shut in stormy weather to prevent hapless motorists from being swept into the Firth Of Clyde.

The people in the car were lucky. If the car had been swept to the side, it would probably have turned over and it could have been a lot worse.

Well done to all members of the emergency services who attended :-)

  • I just missed that. we arrived some minutes before the emergency services turned up. I'd have loved to have heard the conversation in the car just as it spluttered to a halt :-)

  • Great video.., it still surprises me how silly people can be.. in situations like this fines should be used to deter... and to re-imburse the public purse.. I,ve a few extreme weather video's on youtube ( search "qwertyscot" ) What type of "camera" did you use here..? the quality of the video is superb..

If you ever wanted to add a soundtrack to the video.. how about...

    1. "Hold Back The River" 2. "Bridge Over Troubled Water"

    OR MY FAVORITE

    4. "The Muppets Theme Tune"

  • @qwertyscot I like the suggestions for songs :-) I only wish I came up with it first!

I spoke to some of the locals who told me with resigned voices that it was a common occurence, and would no doubt happen many times again. East Ayrshire Council were going to build a bridge but funds are a bit low at the moment. My suggestion is lockable gates.

I also spoke to one of the firefighters who said that they were entitled to fine the motorist, but it never happened. Thanks for commenting :-)

  • @qwertyscot I forgot to say, the camera is a Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ9. It can record on HD format, but due to the time it takes to upload I usually set it to the next setting, WVGA. It retains reasonable picture quality but doesn't take weeks to upload.

I had a look at your channel, and liked it so much I subscribed. Keep the good videos coming.

  • 4 firecrews, 1 Ambulance, 1 police crew and 2 coastguard rescue teams elaborate rope work ?? Could they not just use one fire engine and a winch

  • @allano937 They probably would've done that had I not been filming! The public's watching so better make it look good ;-)
