NEWS RELEASE

STREETDANCE SENSATION TRAILBLAZING INTO NEWCASTLE

The streetdance craze that is sweeping the nation is set to make a hot date this Autumn as the sensational stage show Blaze breaks, pops and locks its way to Newcastle Theatre Royal, 18 -- 20 October 2010.

Streetdance is an art form with humble begins -- it started as a social and improvisational kind of dance, being performed anywhere away from dance studios, including the streets and in any public open space. It has now grown to become one of the most popular dance forms on the planet, spurning a multitude of TV contests, films and famous names and becoming a symbol of popular youth culture in the 21st century.

Now it is being re-imagined as an explosive, high energy international stage show in Blaze, which is also the biggest dance show of this decade and features 16 of the best street dancers, B-boys and breakers in the world, accompanied by some of the most talented DJs and MCs.

Blaze is more than just a stage show though, it's also a night out - a rip-roaring 80 minutes of spectacular nonstop dance combining the quality and spectacle of a West End production with the vibes of a club night and the raw impact of a gig. It is also brand new -- it had its premiere in London's West End in March this year, followed by a Dutch premiere in April.

The show stars So You Think You Can Dance finalists Lizzie Gough and Tommy Franzen, as well as a host of the biggest streetdance names from across the world including Dutch star Jomecia Oosterwolde, French star Marion Gallet, Kylie Minogue tour dancers Pete Francis and Quails, Caramel, Lil'Steph, Neguin, Machine and Sky Chief. Blaze also stars 2006 World B-Boy Champion Mouse, who is known for his smooth and funky style.

Blaze is directed by top West End director and choreographer Anthony Van Laast, who trained at the London School of Contemporary Dance and has forged a successful career as a dancer and choreographed dozens of West End productions. He is supported by a creative team of 15 including set designer Es Deslin who designed the Monsterball concert for Lady Gaga, lighting designer Patrick Woodroffe who has lit and directed the shows of many of the top names in music including Michael Jackson, The Rolling Stones and Stevie Wonder, and a host of hugely talented live visual and video designers and some of the brightest and hottest choreographers in popular dance.

Music direction is by Danilo "DJ" Walde, a classically trained musician whose immense talent took him on to become Musical Director of ZooNation Dance. He is supported by producer DJ Lunice who has taken hold of the electronic beats scene in North America, setting ears, heads, and dance floors ablaze with his exciting mixture of beats, bass, and splintered electro.

Blaze is guaranteed to delight street dance junkies and newcomers alike. Experience the thrill of streetdance as you've never seen it before!

Blaze appears at Newcastle Theatre Royal from 18 - 20 October 2010 (Evenings: 7.30pm). Tickets are £13.50 - £29.00 and can be purchased from the Theatre Royal Box Office on 08448 11 21 21 or select your own seat and book online at www.theatreroyal.co.uk
