Retrobox: The Ultimate Retro Gaming Experience

This is my retro gamin setup. Made possible by:
Hyperspin-fe.com
Emumovies.com
Underground-gamer.com

Retrobox is an all-in-one emulation console built on a windows 7 system. It plays 45 different systems with 15113 playable games spread over thoses sytems. There are no duplicate games, non-working games, hacks or clones on the setup; they were all sorted out. Every game on the system has a cover, a video of its gameplay, a wheel and information about it's releasedate and manufacturer. The bigger systems also have complete cart or CD scans.

The systems consist of their complete US library of games, european games that were not released in the US and the best known japanese games. Some systems have prototypes and other goodies as well.

Most of the themes were either done or edited by me. I made all themes based off the european versions of the consoles. Most of the content is made by the people over at Hyperspin-fe.com though; such as wheels, theme-content, covers and so on. The videos are all made by Emumovies and it's content contributors (I am a contributor and so I made many of the gameplay footage videos myself and many were made by the Hyperspin Project crew over at Underground-gamer).

The setup takes up around 1,7 TB uncompressed. I use two Logitech Cordless Rumblepad 2 controllers with the setup and map many systems directly, others through joy2key and xpadder.

This setup took over a year to finish. It was a lot of hard work, trust me :P

Interested in buildind a setup like mine yourself?

You can download my work over at underground-gamer.com. It goes by the name "Hyperspin Project". But be warned; It's not plug and play. Also, if you like this, please register over at hyperspin-fe.com and emumovies.com; being a part of the community is the only way to achieve a setup similar to mine. You'll need help, and I can't help everyone ;) Rather post a thread that PM me, please. Also, consider donating to the 3 sites if you like what you was in the video :)

Disclaimer: I do not sell copies of this system! I do not, in any way, support piracy! I own the rights to the games I play and so should you if you plan on building a similar setup.

  • hi how do you add other systems and make it so the games run straight from your emu with out picking them manually thx

  • @relicz1 Unfortunately there is no straight forward anwser to this, you'll have to head over to hyperspin-fe. com and lurk the forums and learn by doing I'm arfaid. In the end this always depends on the emulator :/ The system you add in the main meny xml database.

  • hey man ive tried getting it from the site you gave me but theres no one online for the torrent so i was just wondering if i could have a copy of yours by any chance thx it would make my day

  • @relicz1 I don't sell the project, sorry :/ Still, there are 102 seeders on the HS torrents right now so I can't imagine it wouldn't be seeded at any given time :)

  • Hi!

Where can i get ahold of that Gameboy Main Menu Theme & the Dreamcast System Theme? Have you made them yourself? I whould really like to get ahold of those two, hope you can help me out.. and by the way nice job putting it all together, must have taken forever :)

  • @trancechris123 Thanks, yeah it kind of did take forever ;) Those themes can be downloaded in the download section at Hyperspin-fe. com, if you don't find them send me an email and I'll look into it :)

  • ok good news its running but sort of slow so if we could all see this that would be great thx

  • i could go through and download it!!! but currently dont have the time piecing together all the files...would you charge out to prepare all files on 2 tb hard drive and charge a fee???

  • Surperb stuff. Just started using Hyperspin and tinkering with it. Got Mame, Model 2 and Super Nintendo up and running, albeit, without any artwork, properly emu setups or filtering of clone/non working games etc.

Think I'm going to start again and get one small system set up completely first, so it isn't massive in size.

    Great vid.

  • @bprodmail I'm not sure off hand. I haven't been working on my frontends for almost a year now, so I'm somewhat out of the loop. You could try asking indigo2k1us here on youtube. He was mentioned in a ScummVM video project on the HyperSpin Wikipedia page some time ago. Not sure how that project is going, but HS Wiki might also be the best place to start.

I would also suggest the EmuMovies Website, as they seem to be the best resource online for Videos and artwork. That's where I go for videos.
