Lee Ritenour : Guitar , Rick Jackson : Keyboards , Melvin Davis : Bass , Land Richards : Drums Larry & Lee Live in Japan 1995. Bunkamura Orchard Hall . Tokyo, Japan June 03, 1995
I have no prob if he is seriously enjoying himself. He is an amazing player. No question. Just the showman stuff. Lee doesn't need that stuff. He's that good his playing speaks for himself.
As a bass player, I'd be honored to play even a set with Lee. The sound here is very tight. Very well balanced. Bass player and drummer right in the pocket.
@CTuxford It's from his tribute album to Wes Montgomery - and one of Wes's signature styles was the octave soloing, hence Lee is featuring the octaves. And playing with his thumb, like Wes.
I wish he didn't make the octave intervals such a dominating feature of this tune. Lee is a great player, and I now he's got to trust himself and what a good musician he is without resorting to gimmicks to keep his career. Isn't he already good enough and well-known enough to have confidence in his own muse?
