Two fishing boats from Riverton battle their way through and over the Greymouth Bar after the river was flooded from heavy rains which had hit the area over the previous 24 hours. The bar is one of the most dangerous bars in New Zealand.
This incredible footage was seen on New Zealand news that night. We were filming the river mouth for a documentary channel when we saw these two boats approach. There have been many deaths over the years and we were amazed that they made it.

@tigerkillslion The bar is where the river currents meet the ocean currents, causing big waves depending on the tide, etc.

@CHCHZparkourTEAM hey mate, yea the bar been over her a couple o times with the wendy j meself. can u ask mark if he remembers me i worked a couple o trips for him about 12yrs ago (scottie) gd to ere hes still goin in fillin his boat up!!! tell himi was askin for him if he still remembers. second trip i had we had engine smash up just had engine overhauld.. cheers

im from greymouth and i was down there and i gta say my dad working on the wendy j with the skipper killer ( mark ) i must say them going over the bar for 20 odd years they would never risk going in those conditions the moon walker skipper anlong with the kainga both gt fined for going over the bar with te blue light flashing and being inexsperinced fisherman shame on them

thats a good ole southern kiwi accent with a bit of a mumble, and yes lots of kiwis sound like that.. he sounds like a proper salty old sea dog, bless
