Act II, "Le chambre magique", of Debussy's neglected mystery play/oratorio. Charles Munch leads the Boston Symphony Orchestra with soprano Phyllis Curtin.

1. Prélude
2. "Je fauchais l'épi de froment" (voix de la vierge Erigone)
3. "Qui pleure mon enfant si doux" (vox celestis)

Art by Odilon Redon.

[editor's note: a few seconds of tremolo cut from the beginning to fit into 10 minutes. sorry!]

  • Thanks for this video and music. I cannot begin to describe what it has meant to me.

  • I think that Stravinsky composed Persephone as a kind of response to this piece. (Of course, Debussy was no longer around to hear it.) Does anyone have thoughts about this?
